Abdominoplasty Baton Rouge
One of the most common problem areas for patients is the abdomen and trunk. When traditional methods of fat reduction like dieting and exercise prove ineffective, a great option for getting rid of extra fat and enhancing the appearance of their figure is a surgical procedure known as abdominoplasty.
Is an Abdominoplasty Right for Me?
Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” surgery is a very popular procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the abdomen. It does so by removing excess lower abdominal skin, removing abdominal fat, and repairing lax abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis) that have become separated as a result of major weight changes or pregnancy.
The most common causes of a lax abdomen and sagging excess tissue are pregnancy, weight fluctuations, massive weight loss, and prior abdominal surgery. This surgery is often performed in combination with liposuction to further contour the waist and target any trouble spots.
Abdominoplasty is an excellent way to improve abdominal contour, slim the waist, and create a flatter and smoother looking abdomen with more definition. However, there are some things to consider before deciding on surgery.
Patients that are planning to undergo this procedure should be at a stable weight that they can comfortably maintain. It is also recommended that you wait until you no longer plan on having additional children.
Your Abdominoplasty Consultation
During your initial consultation, Dr. Bourgeois, a board-certified plastic surgeon, will evaluate your overall health, perform a physical examination, take photographs for your medical record, discuss risks and potential complications of abdominoplasty surgery, and address any questions or concerns you may have about the procedure.
We will also review before and after photos of other patients who have undergone abdominoplasty to give you a clear idea of results that are possible through surgery.
What to Expect During Your Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty with or without liposuction is performed at our surgery center or at one of the many local hospitals under general anesthesia in combination with local anesthetics. This procedure can also be performed in combination with breast procedures or some minor gynecologic surgeries and is usually performed on an outpatient basis.
The incision for the procedure is made from hip to hip beneath the swimsuit or underwear line so that it is well-hidden. Excess lower abdominal tissue is surgically excised. The muscles along the abdominal wall are sutured together to create a slimmer and tighter-looking abdomen. The remaining skin is then re-draped over the abdominal muscles to give the stomach a smooth and flat appearance. Finally, the incision is sutured closed.
