Eyelid Lift Surgery

Conveniently located to serve Baton Rouge

Blepharoplasty, also known as the eyelid lift, is one of the most popular cosmetic facial procedures because of the essential role the eyes play in a person’s overall appearance. Sagging upper eyelids can make a person appear tired or disinterested, while puffy undereye bags make it seem like they are struggling to get a good night’s rest. Both these issues detract from the beauty of your overall look.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jenna Bourgeois specializes in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face. She has the technical skill and precision needed to work on such a delicate area of the body, as well as the in-depth knowledge of facial aesthetics need to deliver natural-looking results.

I had been debating about having an eyelid lift for quit awhile. Had seen a couple of physicians and kept putting the surgery off. I asked a friend of mine who she would suggest and she said Dr. Jenna Bourgeois. I made the appointment and loved her immediately! She covered everything about the surgery to the point I had no questions. The surgery went amazing! I can see better now and don’t have the lids hanging over my eyes. One of my friends said “your eyes are so blue.” It helps when they open all the way. I love Dr. Bougeois and would recommend her to anyone! You would be in great hands!

Am I a Good Candidate for an Eyelid Lift?

Good candidates for eyelid surgery have noticeable aesthetic issues with either their upper or lower eyelids. The most common issue that occurs in the upper eyelids is noticeable sagging or drooping of the upper eyelid. This can cause wrinkling and can distort the appearance of the eyes. In severe cases of upper-eyelid drooping, the excess tissue can obscure a portion of the person’s vision.

The primary issue that occurs with the lower eyelid is the pooling of fat underneath the lower eyelid, resulting in the formation of noticeable puffy bags beneath the eyes. These puffy bags can only be fully addressed through the surgical removal of excess fat from the area.

How Does Eyelid Surgery Work?

The duration of eyelid surgery depends on the types of corrections being performed. It will take longer if the upper and lower eyelids are being rejuvenated. Anesthesia will be administered before the procedure to ensure patient comfort.

Upper-Eyelid Surgery: For upper-eyelid surgery, incisions are made along the top of the upper eyelids, where there is a natural crease in the skin. This allows any post-surgical marks to be hidden within the crease. This incision allows access to the excess fat and loose eyelid muscles.

During surgery, excess fat is removed, muscles are trimmed and tightened, and excess skin is removed. The incision is then closed. Once fully healed, the upper eyelid should look tighter and smoother and the eyes should have a revitalized and more youthful appearance.

Lower-Eyelid Surgery: The incision for lower-eyelid surgery can be made at the lash line. Alternately, it can be made inside the lower eyelid, ensuring that any post-surgical marks are completely hidden. Loose skin is removed, and excess fat is removed through this small incision. Some fat is left in the area or repositioned to avoid creating a hollowed appearance.

Recovering from Eyelid Surgery

Once you are cleared to return home, a friend or family member will need to drive you home, since you will not be able to drive for a time. Some swelling and discomfort are to be expected but can be managed with minimal medication. Prior to surgery, you will also be provided with a thorough list of post-operative instructions.

Most patients will need to take around one week off from work in order to properly recover from their blepharoplasty. Strenuous activity will need to be avoided during the recovery period. Bruising and swelling with be minimal and you should expect to see your final results in around 6 weeks with those results will continue to improve over the coming months.

Eyelid Lift Cost

The price of the eyelid lift procedure will vary depending on a number of factors. Anesthesia fees can play a role, as can total procedure time and the exact techniques being utilized. If both sets of eyelids are involved in the eyelid surgery, this can also affect the total cost of the procedure.
